Songsak in Garo Hills has always been considered as a strong bastion for the National People’s Party (NPP) in Meghalaya which is contesting the Assembly elections in many seats against the Indian National Congress this time. However, Dr Mukul Sangma, Chief Minister, Meghalaya, has filed his nomination from Songsak after filing his nomination from his home turf of Ampati.
Mukul Sangma has been one of the most vocal proponents of individual liberty and freedom of expression, speech, cuisine, culture and opinion in Meghalaya and has taken the BJP and other opponents to task for their violent, obstructive and non-harmonious approaches towards the people of the State.
Mukul Sangma stated that the whole idea behind filing his nomination from Songsak was his desire to bring about equitable development across all parts of the State. Contesting from Songsak was part of this goal towards driving more growth in all sectors like the current Government has been doing.
Mukul Sangma also thanked the people of Songsak and his supporters for their love and blessings. He was happy that several supporters and well-wishers accompanied him when he went to file his nomination. Mukul Sangma talked of forging ahead with only progress in mind and nothing else. He promised to do his best to usher in more development for Songsak and the people of Meghalaya at large.
