Chief Minister, Meghalaya, Dr. Mukul Sangma, attended the Celebration of Peace musical festival yesterday in Shillong. The event took place at the Shillong Polo Grounds and was organized by the Indian National Congress. This musical festival was aimed at celebrating and showcasing the cultural diversity of Meghalaya and also kick-started the Congress poll campaign in a highly innovative manner. Shri. Rahul Gandhi, the AICC President, was the Chief Guest at the event and he sounded the clarion call for peace, tolerance and secularism at the event.

The event drew huge crowds and saw fantastic performances from popular acts like Empirical Tribe, Soulmate, Colors, Dewdrops and the Khmih Children’s Choir among others. Dr. Sangma thanked Shri. Rahul Gandhi for his support and declared that the entire State of Meghalaya loves him for his leadership and beliefs. Dr. Sangma hailed this initiative and stated that all-round peace was the main achievement that Meghalaya needed to work towards. He even sang the famous ballad We Shall Overcome with Shri. Rahul Gandhi and other dignitaries.

The crowds loved Dr. Sangma’s impromptu musical performance. Being a good singer, he did not disappoint with his soulful rendition touching hearts all around. Dr. Sangma also stated that tolerance and peace were major characteristics that defined Meghalaya above all else and vowed to safeguard the same against all odds.

Equality should always be the bulwark of the society according to Dr. Sangma and that should be maintained in light of the recent Anti-Constitutional and communal happenings across the country. He also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, on his death anniversary and appealed to all Meghalaya citizens to follow the great soul’s philosophies of peace, tolerance, non-violence and equality of all.
