Chief Minister, Meghalaya, Dr. Mukul Sangma, attended the Youth Entrepreneurship and Business Development Awareness Programme held at the Tura Government College and delivered a lecture at the event.
He spurred youths of the state to seek new horizons beyond conventional government job opportunities and urged them to increase their employability levels with more alternatives including entrepreneurship and business. Dr. Sangma addressed more than 1,000 students from several educational institutions, urging them to find innumerable opportunities present in the state and also talked about how there should be a concerted effort for informing youngsters about the opportunities available along with giving them necessary information for entrepreneurial ventures.
Dr. Sangma highlighted the success of the Gujarati community and stated how Gujaratis always seek businessmen as ideal husbands for their daughters and do not quite encourage alliances with government employees. Dr. Sangma motivated the attendees with regard to following their entrepreneurial dreams since this would give them ample liberty, freedom and unlimited earning potential. He also talked about how the portfolio of the Chief Minister of Meghalaya was more tasking in comparison to his Gujarat counterpart since people there already possess the mindset required to look for business opportunities and expand the same both locally and nationally.
He talked about how parents should change their mindset and youngsters should be encouraged to pursue opportunities in diverse fields like horticulture, agriculture, veterinary pursuits and more. He highlighted the 2011 census in Meghalaya which witnessed 27% of growth in rural areas (decadal) and stated that this necessitates more unity for addressing concerns related to job opportunities and overpopulation alike. If each segment in society attains higher productivity, there would be huge growth potential along with overall prosperity according to Dr. Sangma.
He added that no individual should be considered a social liability. He urged all stakeholders in society to boost production capacity and also to encourage the youngsters to pursue more progressive professions. He talked about how the youth have to be motivated to attain self-reliance with regard to pursuing their dreams. He also talked about how the Government has been collaborating with several departments for enabling easier access to the right mentorship and knowledge for young entrepreneurs.
