Dr. Mukul Sangma, Chief Minister, Meghalaya, laid the foundation stone for the development of the RMA (Rongjeng-Mansang-Adokgre) Road which includes the blacktopping and metalling of the intermediate lane under the aegis of the NLCPR (Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources). The event was graced by Deborah C. Marak, the School Education & Literacy Minister, Cherak W. He also urged locals to provide necessary land for building roads like their forefathers who always gave land for catchment areas and roads in the past. Dr. Sangma also added that this was one of the biggest projects for Garo Hills and stated that State Highway maintained roads were better than National Highways. He talked of how feeder roads would be there for the RMA Road in order to connect nearby Khasi Hills villages and also hoped for a strengthening of ties between the Khasis and Garos through this road.

The Chief Minister also added that work has already commenced for the State’s first Engineering College at Mawlai while the first State University has already got its Vice Chancellor, with classes scheduled to commence from next year. He added that children of the state should get scope to study here. He also talked of the inauguration of the Rongjeng Administrative Unit prior to the 15th of November, 2017.

Parliamentary Secretary in-charge of PWD (Roads), Cherak W. Momin, stated that the RMA Road project connects the Kharkutta and Rongjeng constituencies and the National Highway 37 and this project has received special attention from the Chief Minister. Sengnam Marak, the local MLA, stated that people of Mansang, Rongjeng and Adokgre areas had been asking for this road for more than two decades. It is only Dr. Mukul Sangma and his Government who have fulfilled the needs of the local people according to him. He added that this project is the biggest gift given to the people in the area by the Chief Minister. Other dignitaries who addressed the gathering at the event included the E.E.
