Chief Minister, Meghalaya, Dr. Mukul Sangma, has filed his nomination for the upcoming Meghalaya Assembly elections from Ampati. This is Dr. Sangma’s home turf where he was first elected as an independent candidate in the year 1993 and thereafter, won the elections from Ampati in the years 1998, 2003, 2008 and 2013 as an elected representative from the Indian National Congress.
Dr. Sangma is hopeful of returning for a 5th term from his home constituency and filed his nomination papers along with his wife Dikkanchi D Shira who filed her nomination papers for the Mahendraganj constituency. Mukul Sangma will contest the seat against the candidate from the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), Bakul Hajong who is an ex-director of the Sericulture and Weaving Department of the State.
Dr. Sangma has administered the State for more than one decade and is confident of returning to power with the blessings and support of the people. He will also be contesting from the Songsak constituency which has been an NPP bastion for several years.
Dr. Sangma confirmed that he had filed his nomination from Ampati and talked of how blessed he was to have served the people of the area for several years. He talked of continuing his mission of development for all in Meghalaya and Ampati and hoped that the people would keep supporting and loving him as always. He thanked everyone in Ampati for their good wishes, blessings and support. He also stated that he would always strive to be worthy of the expectations of his constituents.
