The Foundation Stone was laid by Chief Minister, Meghalaya, Dr. Mukul Sangma for the building of the RCC Bridge No. 19/2 on the KDA Road at Adokgre over the Ildek River. The event was graced by dignitaries like local MLA of Kharkutta, Cherak W. Momin, Bajendoba MLA, Brigady N. Marak and Mendipathar MLA, Marthon J. Sangma. The event was also attended by the SP, North Garo Hills, D.P. Marak, Additional Chief Engineer, North Garo Hills, G. Marak and the ADC, North Garo Hills, P.K. Boro.
Dr. Mukul Sangma expressed his delight at laying the foundation stone for the bridge and added that once it was completed, it would transform the region. The project remained in limbo over the last two decades and now, the region would finally witness rapid development according to CM Sangma. He also stated that a region only develops once there is the building of suitable bridges, roads and other communication avenues. He talked of how democracy truly works to fulfill needs and aspirations of citizens and talked of how people should keep hoping and withstand negative ideas and forces. He talked of how people will now witness faster development and improvements in many sectors including law and order.
Chief Minister Sangma also stated that development should be undertaken with a broader vision for the entire region and the power always lies with the people themselves who should refrain from violence and should exercise democracy themselves. He talked of the 1917 Integrated Technology Enabled Agri Management System or 1917iTEAMS endeavor which was a pioneering effort by the Department of Agriculture for offering better access to information, transportation, logistics, more profitable markets and crop advisories for buyers, sellers, farmers and other entrepreneurs. This launch was aimed at empowering the most important section, namely the farmers who take responsibility for the nutrition of all. The programme will transform the farming sector according to Dr. Sangma and is a beautifully tailored initiative.
He also highlighted the Megha Health Scheme and its benefits for citizens. This is a one of a kind initiative and the Government is also working to set up more community colleges throughout the State. Dignitaries like Cherak W. Momin and Brigady N. Marak also addressed the gathering at the occasion. Cherak W. Momin talked of how Adokgre now has examination centres to help children take the Class X examinations without having to travel up to Kharkutta. He also talked of how school buildings were being built in the area and many livestock missions were being established in Meghalaya.
