It gives me great pleasure to announce that Meghalaya has emerged as the overall winner of the 2017 Muay Thai Championship and Pro-Am Fight for the title belt, which took place at the SAI-STC NEHU Complex in Shillong. I am delighted that Meghalaya scored 79 points to seal the first position with Assam and Mizoram coming in at second and third places with 57 and 55 points respectively.
I congratulate all the 240 participants from 19 states, which includes host team officials and talented athletes. They have certainly enlivened the sporting scene in our state and I would like to express my deepest gratitude for their sportsmanship and participation. I also congratulate Enifer Nongkynrih from Meghalaya who won the Best Fighter title at the Championship. His feat has definitely created history for Meghalaya while I also congratulate Banjoplang Ryndem, the silver medallist who put up a brave fight against Mizoram’s Ngursaimawia Sailo in the last round.
I am delighted that the medal winners at the 2017 Muay Thai Championship will now be eligible for participating in the IFMA World Muaythai Championship 2018. This mega event will be held in May next year and the winners will also take part in the FISU University Championship 2018. On behalf of the state and its people, I wish the best of luck to the medal winners and champions as they prepare to bring back more glory for their nation and Meghalaya of course! I also congratulate the host team for ensuring the success of this event.
It is my firm belief that more events like these will pave the foundation for aspiring martial arts artists and athletes in Meghalaya to successfully pursue their goals and come out trumps against all odds. I myself take inspiration from our winners and urge everyone to do the same. After all, winning is not just about coming first; it is a state of mind. Let’s all make winning a habit!
